Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a “cap” that is shaped like a tooth and is bonded over a tooth covering the tooth, all the way to the gum line, to restore the strength, size, shape and improve its overall appearance.
Why would a dental crown be needed?
A dental crown may be needed in any of the following situations:
- Restore an already broken or one that is severely worn down
- Cover misshaped or extremely discolored Teeth
- Protects a weak tooth from breaking down from decay or to hold together a cracked tooth
- Cover and support a large filling if there is not a lot of tooth left
- Used to cover a dental implant
Types of Dental Crowns Available
- Metals including alloys such as – gold alloy, palladium, nickel, chromium to name a few.
- Porcelain-fused-to-Metal – these can be color- matched to your teeth, unlike metals.
- All-resin – less expensive but more prone to wearing down.
- All ceramic or porcelain – best for natural color match and for people with allergies to metals.
