Root canal procedure.

Root canal procedure.

Endodontic treatment of the tooth or root canal procedure is performed under local anesthesia.

At Aurora Yonge Dental we have the designated doctor who has great experience and is specializing in doing the root canal treatments.

Depends on the tooth it might be one, two, three or four root canals in the tooth. As more canals more difficult the treatment is considered.

During the first part of the root canal treatment the doctor has to remove all nerve tissue from the root canal of the tooth to make sure that none of it got left.

After that the doctor is irrigating the root canal space with the special antiseptic solution to prevent potential infection.

The final part of the root canal is sealing the root canal space with the material called gutta-percha and special cement.

Depends on the tooth difficulty post treatment discomfort after the root canal treatment might be anywhere from 24 to 72 hours that is why pain killers are prescribed after any endodontic treatment.

In the case of the preoperative tooth infection antibiotics also prescribed.

At Aurora Yonge Dental in most cases we performing root canal treatments in one appointment unless the tooth is infected and after the removing of the infected nerve tissue we have to place special material in the root canal space for a week to make sure that the infection is gone.

All the root canal treated, no vital teeth are more fragile compare to the vital teeth that is why after the root canal procedure we are recommending to our patients at Aurora Yonge Dental to cover tooth with the crown to prevent it from brakeage.

We also recommending at Aurora Yonge Dental to do the follow up on all root canal treated teeth once every 12 months via x-rays to make sure that there is no changes in the apical area (end of the root area) of the tooth.
